George on the DuMont Network?
Few people alive today know about the DuMont network. By the mid-50’s, it was gone. But George still got his chance to appear on that network. “Heinz Studio 57” was a dramatic series that lasted a couple of seasons. I can only guess that it was much like the “Westinghouse Studio One” series on CBS. George appeared in an episode entitled “Typhoon”. From what I can tell, “Typhoon” is currently stored in BFI’s archive. There is no description on their site as to the condition or screening availability of this show. I believe the chance of anyone being able to watch this show at their facility is slim to none. But I could be wrong.
Here’s a couple of descriptions:
Pilot entry about the adventures of a schooner skipper (O'Brien) and his son (Dick). - BFI
The son of a sea captain gets an opportunity to prove his courage during a typhoon that threatens their explosives-laden ship. - tv.com
It’s funny. I some how figured “Typhoon” would have been about a retired boxer coming back into the ring for one last showdown! If anyone ever gets access to this show, and is able to make a recording of it, we George fans would sure like to see it. So let us know!
